Its time for my weekly product review! This is a brand I have been seeing around grocery stores for the past few years. I have seen their dressings in Walmart stores around the country, as well as in my local Albertson’s, and Natural Grocers. It is much more accessible and heard of than the other brands I have reviewed in previous weeks. I found this particular “Non Dairy Ranch” flavor at Natural Grocers in the salad dressing section. I chose this dressing because I am on a mission to find a good vegan ranch substitute. I really like Follow Your Heart’s ranch but I have been making my own dressing the past few months which is better than any bottled one I’ve tried! Anyway, I decided to try this ranch (I tried another one of their dressings about a year ago, and it was average).
I’m not going to lie, I didn’t really have high expectations for this one. I looked at the consistency and the color and was already unsure. I wasn’t sure about the label saying “made with agave nectar”. It gave me the impression that it was going to be too sweet. I also didn’t like the fact that it gave the impression that it was healthier because it said “1 carb per serving” and “gluten free”. To be honest, it really wasn’t much healthier than any other dressing with 110 calories per serving, 100 of which are from fat.
As far as taste went, it was alright. It didn’t really taste like ranch to me. I put a little on a spoon to try it at first before I used it as a condiment. My initial reaction was that it was a lot tangier than I expected. It wasn’t as creamy and cooling as I expect a ranch dressing to be. It also had notes of sweet, probably the agave nectar coming through. I actually love using ranch as a condiment. I decided to go that route with this and poured it over a baked potato. I really didn’t like it by itself that much. To me it just tasted like a basic creamy vinaigrette salad dressing. If I thought of it that way, it was manageable, but when I tried to tell myself that it was ranch I wasn’t believing it.
After trying this dressing, I don’t think I would buy it again. It just wasn’t what I was looking for and more importantly it didn’t taste like ranch. I might use it on salads, or with other condiments, but by itself it wasn’t my favorite thing ever. I guess I’m stuck with making my own ranch dressing for now, which is fine with me! As always, this is my personal opinion and this post is not sponsored by Organic Ville. I am just doing this review to show people what is available in our local grocery stores and how easy vegan food is to find. My experience with this product may be different than someone else. I highly recommend trying different products to people because everyone has different taste buds.
