Believe it or not, I have never tried this cookie butter before. The first vegan cookbook I had used it in a recipe and I was always curious, but I never was bold enough to buy a jar of puréed cookies. Every once in a while I would stare at the mysterious product that was next to the peanut butter in almost every grocery store I went to. Needless to say, I have always been curious about this cookie butter. Earlier this week, I was lazily strolling the grocery store and I decided to pick up a jar! I wasn’t going to review this product this week, but I decided to mix things up since I haven’t reviewed a sweet or dessert like product yet.
To start, the jar says vegan on it so there isn’t a secret that this stuff is vegan. I was still unsure, so I read the label and I was pleased to see that it didn’t have any hydrogenated oils and sugar wasn’t the first ingredient! I always wondered how they made cookies into a butter, but after reading the ingredients, I found out it was with the addition of canola oil, sugar, and soy lecithin. That is way better than even most highly processed peanut butters out there, so I was excited about that.
When I got the butter home, I was honestly not sure what to do with it. I opened the seal and it was a lot creamier than I expected. The top was so smooth and so shiny. It just looked like a darker version of “JIF” or “Skippy” peanut butter. For some strange reason my initial reaction wasn’t to grab a spoonful of it, but instead to spread it on a cracker. I can’t even describe how wonderful that first taste was! I have seriously been missing out on this stuff my entire life. It was so smooth like a very creamy nut butter, but tasted like a cookie. So think the smoothest, creamiest, sweetest almond butter ever, except cookie flavored! I was instantly in love. I spread it on some gingerbread cookies I had left over and it gave me some great ideas for holiday baking. I can’t wait to use this as frostings, fillings, and desserts!
Needless to say, I loved this product! I am sad that I hadn’t tried it until now! I feel like I have missed out on years of cookie butter goodness. I have seen this at pretty much every grocery store here, so there isn’t any shortage of this stuff. I know that it isn’t anything special or new, but anyone who hasn’t tried this cookie butter before is missing out! Also it’s super affordable, I pay more for almond butter and peanut butter. Anyway, I really enjoyed this review! I hope it encourages at least one person to try that product that they’ve been eying for the last five years at the grocery store and have resisted.
