Over the past few years, I have become a die hard Califia Farms almond milk drinker. Part of it is the packaging, part of it is the reasonable price for a good almond milk, but it also just seems to taste better than other processed almond milks. I came to the realization that I have never tried any of the seasonal products they make until now. I also realized I have never reviewed a non-dairy beverage! This is a post of firsts!
I have seen their cold brew with almond milk at a few different grocery stores around town, but I happened to pick this up at Albertson’s. I have actually been wanting to try some of their seasonal products for quite some time now. For some reason when I wandering the store the other day, this just spoke to me. As I mentioned earlier, I love the packaging of all of the Califia Farms products. I think they are really clean and sleek looking. The bottles that they use just have a really nice curvature and the label isn’t too over the top with obnoxious colors or fonts like some other non-dairy milk brands. That really attracts to me, and I think it is a good marketing strategy they have. The clean lines, the easy open lid, the color combinations, all speak simplicity. As a consumer, I really look for things like that and gravitate toward them. If something looks clean and simple, my brain automatically tells me that I like it more, whether I actually do or not. Anyway, the “Peppermint Mocha Cold Brew” was no exception. The label was mostly brown. It had some red accents, which made it feel like a holiday product.
Previously, I have tried some of the other Califia Farms cold brew products and I have really liked them. I like that they don’t make them very sweet. Coffee that is too sweet doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. I still want to taste the coffee, but sometimes it is nice to have it enhanced with some other flavors. When I poured myself a glass of the “Peppermint Mocha Cold Brew”, I really liked the consistency of it. It was slightly thicker than I expected, but it definitely wasn’t as thick as an eggnog. It was pretty much the consistency of their regular almond milk. It was really minty with a hint of chocolate. I didn’t get as much of the coffee flavor as I was hoping. I am used to drinking black coffee and can’t remember the last time I had some specialty coffee beverage, so that may have had something to do with it.
Overall, I thought that it tasted good though. I will definitely be able to finish the whole bottle (probably before the holidays actually roll around). I was hoping for a stronger coffee flavor, but all of the flavors blended together nicely. It was smooth, yet refreshing from the mint. I really liked that it wasn’t too sweet, so I didn’t feel like I was drinking dessert. I would definitely recommend this for holiday entertaining, or just having around to feel festive. It definitely got me in the mood for some serious cookie baking!
