Every year, I have always had such a hard time with buying or making gifts for all of my family and friends. If I buy gifts for EVERYONE, my pocket book suffers. On the other hand, if I make a gift for more than one person at a time, I am usually left crunched for time and immensely frustrated. My easy solution to this is to gift homemade baking mixes! This used to be a big thing when I was growing up, except people rarely made their own mix. It was always a store bought jar of chocolate chip cookie mix or a “gourmet” boxed quick bread mix.
This tip makes gift giving a breeze! It also lets friends and family make amazing cookies, quick breads, cakes, pancakes, or brownies in their own homes. It’s like gifting homemade baked goods, but everyone else gets to do all of the work! There aren’t many materials required for this gift either. The only things that are absolutely necessary are jars (I like quart Mason jars) or containers that will hold the baking mix, dry ingredients, and paper to write instructions on! Basically, this gift can be made in five minutes! The hardest part is getting the dry mix into the container. For recipes that require multiple steps, I recommend separating the ingredients into a zip top bag. This allows people to easily remove them. I have also seen people decorate the jars but I feel like I’m not that exciting most of the time. I am the person who would just tie a ribbon around the jar and call it good. I recommend doing simple recipes that only use one bowl and don’t require too many steps. The goal is to make the recipe completely fool proof. It is also nice to have something that people can make with ingredients that they already have in their house. This makes it easy on both ends!
I have a feeling I will be using this tip to get me through the holidays this year. I always really struggle with gift giving. I feel guilty if someone gives me something and I don’t get them anything. For instances like that I will probably use this easy gifting solution. I know people like my desserts, so it’s almost guaranteed to go over well. This way they can have fresh baked goods on their own time. Holidays can be dessert overkill, so giving dessert can be excessive. With this, people can indulge whenever is convenient for them. If I can give someone something I know they will enjoy and I can make it easier on myself, then it is an even greater success.
