Product Review: Cilantro Chili Bitchin’ Sauce

I have to be honest, this product really didn’t appeal to me when I first saw it at my local grocery store. I heard a worker at the store talking about it and I just thought that it sounded weird and kind of dumb. I ran across it at another local store, and the woman at the register really talked it up. She made it sound like some wonderful cheesy dip that was the best thing in the world. After that, I decided to try it!

For starters, the packaging is unique. I love the name of the sauce! The bold writing is very eye catching and the logo is different. I like that though. It attracts attention to the product. Personally, I don’t think it’s the most visual appealing logo, but it was very different, and made me look twice. When I turned the product over, I noticed that the ingredients were very simple. The main base was made from almonds, grapeseed oil, lemon juice, nutritional yeast, Bragg Liquid Aminos, and spices. I already knew I loved the flavor of all of those ingredients together, so there wasn’t any way that it could be bad.┬áThe only downside is that it is almond based, and a lot of people have nut allergies.

When I opened the product, I was expecting something more saucy. The texture is more like very thick dip or a spread. It wasn’t sauce at all. I decided to try it simply with some neutral crackers. I instantly tasted the lemon juice, Bragg Liquid Aminos, and the nutritional yeast. That was by no means a bad thing though. It provided a very savory flavor that made it really addictive. I got hints of cilantro, but it wasn’t overpowering. The chili provided a mild heat toward the end. It was really yummy! I loved the texture of it too. Looking from the outside and knowing that it is almond based, I expected it to be fairly grainy. It wasn’t that at all. It was really smooth and quite tasty. I loved the acidity from the lemon, the salt and cheese-like flavor from the combination of the nutritional yeast and Bragg Liquid Aminos, the freshness from the cilantro, and the heat from the chilies. It all worked together really well!

This product exceeded my expectations by quite a bit. I didn’t really have high hopes, so I was surprised at how good it tasted. I have since been using it as a condiment in place of sour cream or guacamole in Mexican dishes, as an added flavor on avocado toast, and of course as a dip. I happened to purchase this flavor at Natural Grocers, they have many more flavors available as well. I know that Grant Street Grocery sells other flavors, also. I would highly recommend this dip to anyone who is looking for a good condiment.
