It’s been yet another busy week, and I think I am finally beginning to manage my time better (maybe, maybe not…). I left off right before my Thursday dinners, then I had back to back dessert deliveries on Friday. I actually had a weekend off, which was much needed. I had an average Monday, then I prepared for the farmer’s market on Tuesday.
Last Thursday’s dinners went well. I had a few more than I have been doing, so that was good. It was pretty nice since most people ordered at least two dinners. It made it so my deliveries weren’t overwhelming. All of the deliveries also happened to be on one side of town, so I didn’t find myself running around like crazy all evening. It was a fun dinner to prepare, but I mostly liked it because I got to eat it cold. I have been doing a lot of dinners that can be served cold or hot lately. I like to do that because after working all day, I personally don’t like eating hot food. I figure as the weather gets warmer, other people feel the same way, and getting something refreshing and cool is a lot more satisfying!
The day after my dinners, was spent working on some custom dessert orders. I had an order for five dozen cupcakes and an order for some cookies, brownies, and a small pie. As usual, it sounded like it was going to be a busy day. I went into it a little stressed, but after about two hours, I realized that I was going to get done with both orders early. It really wasn’t as bad as I made it out to be. I actually had a lot of fun with it! I like doing custom orders and it gives me a chance to do different things than I normally do.
After those two days I was pretty spent, and I had the weekend off. It was spent doing a lot of other activities, so it didn’t really feel like a weekend off. Right after that, I had my Meatless Monday dinners. Those went well, and it was a pretty average day for me. It was kind of irritating because I like to get my polenta from Natural Grocers, but they don’t open until 8:30 AM. Usually I like to be cooking by around 8, and I didn’t shop the day before like I should have. I ended up going later in the day, so I didn’t get done with prep as early as I had hoped. Everything still went well, and the dinner was tasty!
The next morning I started prepping for the farmer’s market. I did my usual spread with cupcakes, cookies, brownies, and a gluten-free option. The market went so much better than I expected. The week before wasn’t that busy so I decided to make less cupcakes, but ended up making more cookies and brownies. I sold out of cookies, brownies, and the gluten-free pie in under two hours. I sold out of cupcakes about 45 minutes later. It was a great market and that will be the second time I’ve sold out at a market this year! It’s still hard for me to believe that there are people who come just for my desserts, and that people like my food enough to keep coming back. I know I am good at what I do, but there’s something about hearing it from someone else that still blows my mind. Needless to say it was a great night!
As I write this, I am working on dinner for the couple I’ve been doing Wednesday dinners for. I have already shopped and organized my deliveries for my Thursday dinners. To start off the weekend, I have an order for some cupcakes. Next week will be a little different since I won’t be doing the market, so I look forward to updating on how everything else goes!
